Ani Bond: Choying Drolma

A feature documentary on Ani Choying Drolma, the “rock-star” Tibetan-Nepali singing nun who fights for gender equality in a patriarchal culture while reconciling with the father who once abused her.
Born into forced marriage and domestic violence, she takes refuge in a Tibetan Buddhist monastery, discovers her voice, and builds a school for girls. The film follows her journey to fulfil her father’s last wish, weaving her own path together with the stories of young nuns.
It is an extension of a research sensibility rather than a departure from it: an inquiry into gender inequality, cultural authority and the universal search for freedom.
