About · 關於

Fen Lin林芬

An interdisciplinary scholar and bilingual storyteller who moves between sociology, media, technology, documentary film and the mountains — examining how power, information, culture and emerging technologies shape human experience in China and beyond.

Trained in economics, statistics and sociology, Fen Lin studies media as a social institution: how news is made, how information is governed, and how publics form, fracture and reassemble around what they are able to know.

Alongside her scholarship she works as a documentary filmmaker and bilingual non-fiction writer, and directs ArtX Hong Kong, an institute dedicated to art trading, cultural exchange and art technology. The two practices inform each other — fieldwork sharpens the camera, and the camera slows down the analysis.

She lives in Hong Kong and walks in the mountains whenever the weather allows.
